Counselling in Southampton, Hampshire

Frequently Asked Questions

Sessions are £60 per hour. I can offer a reduction of 10% when a block of 6 sessions is booked in advance (£324). Payment can be taken in cash or by card during the session, or by bank transfer in advance of a session. (Fees are reviewed annually).

I work from a calm and private counselling room in Hedge End. For face-to-face sessions I will provide the address once we agree to work together.

Yes I work remotely and in-person. Online sessions are convenient and can be held from the comfort of your own space.

From my experience and research, online counselling is as effective as in-person counselling. I’m happy to work with a hybrid approach – a mix of face-to-face and online. This is particularly useful given the Covid-19 situation, or if you need to travel away.

There’s no one size fits all. Depending on your circumstances, you may find that around 6 sessions meets your current needs. Or for more in-depth work longer term counselling would be beneficial. This is something we can discuss together when we first meet and we would always review our progress. There is no expectation from me that you come to counselling for any length of time, you come for as long as you are getting what you need.

A therapeutic hour is 50 minutes long.

With prior arrangement, we can have longer sessions.

I recommend weekly or fortnightly sessions, at least at the start of counselling, so that we stay ‘in the flow’ of working. Sometimes this isn’t possible, because of shift work for example, and I can be flexible to accommodate this. I appreciate that you know your own circumstances and needs best so I will be guided by your preferences.

Please contact me as soon as you can to cancel or rearrange. With 48 hours or more notice given, we can reschedule the session. If I am given less than 48 hours notice of a cancellation then the full session’s fees would be payable as I would not be able to refill the slot. If I cancel a session, there is no charge.

Sessions are held from Monday to Friday.

My session times are 9am, 10.30am, 12pm and 1.30pm.

My availability changes frequently so please contact me to find out about current spaces.

A first counselling session is about us getting to know each other. I normally ask you some questions to build up a picture of  what life is like for you. I’ll ask a bit about your background and what brings you to counselling and importantly what you’d like to get from it. There’s no expectation for you to go into great detail at the beginning, you share as much as you are comfortable with.

Ongoing sessions would be focussed on exploring and working through the areas you described in our first session.

Send me a message and we can arrange a brief chat about your situation and discuss how counselling could help you. If I don’t feel that I am the most suitable support for you at this time, I will do my best to refer you to someone better able to help.
